Nashville's How I Became the Bomb couldn't look more eclectic. Their guitarist looks appropriate for "Blazing Saddles," while the bass player looks straight out of "Reservoir Dogs." The lead singer? "Saturday Night Fever."
But it (probably) wasn't their looks that gathered a respectable crowd at the Boost Mobile Discovery Stage on a hot Saturday afternoon. The band rolled through a set full of disco-fueled pop rock, with songs like "A Formal Occasion" and "Action Lady," while young fans tapped their feet alongside men and women twice their age.
Lead singer Jon Burr was certainly appreciative of those who showed up to City Stages early.
"I don't know how you braved these elements," he said. "Whoever put this festival outdoors is without a soul. It's too hot to live."
Even though they only had 30 minutes, How I Became the Bomb gave the small but enthusiastic crowd some cool vibes on a hot summer day.
