MANCUNIAN Brylcreem boys Hurts are to release a new double A-side single as they continue their sleek rise to pop superstardom.
The boys with the smoothest hair in the business (OK, we’re not sure they use Brylcreem but there’s an advertising opportunity in there somwhere) are back with a
re-release of Better Than Love and new single Illuminated on May 2.
Not so long ago, Hurts singer Theo Hutchcraft and synth player Adam Anderson were on the dole in Manchester and developed their trademark smart look as a way of feeling good about themselves while signing on.
Now they have sold over 500,000 albums worldwide and their debut album Happiness has gone gold. Their single Wonderful Life has already had over 14 million online plays.
Better Than Love was released as the band’s first major single in May last year and has fast become a live favourite. Described by Hurts as ‘dance music for depression’, Better Than Love is an upbeat yet dark single while Illuminated is a slow and soft song with a dramatic, emotive chorus.
Hurts are currently on a European tour following their sold-out shows in the UK in February. They will be performing their first ever US show at the Coachella festival next month followed by tour dates across Asia, before heading home for a busy summer of festival performances including V Festival, Isle of Wight, T in the Park, Oxegen and Dot To Dot.
