'Jingo Jangle' is the Clarks’ third album as Epicycle, and it’s easily their best – and that’s really saying something, because 'Orange' (2000) and 'Swirl' (2002) were very impressive efforts that, as much as anything in indie rock history, proved that you don’t need a major label or mega- budget to make great sounding, imaginatively produced records. Once again, the brothers pile on their patented studio razzle-dazzle that calls to mind everyone from the Beatles, the Move, and the Mothers of Invention to T. Rex, Cheap Trick and the Pillbugs. But 'Jingo Jangle' is more sharply focused than its predecessors; more than before, the shape-shifting chicanery – including hairpin-turns in rhythm, volume, texture, vocal distortion and whatever sound effects the boys consider worthwhile – well and truly serves the songs, which are ripe with melody, wit, exuberance and, to quote the band, “I-Max sized power pop choruses.” Check out opener '8-Track Mind,' which sounds like 'Sgt. Pepper'’s 'Good Morning, Good Morning' performed Live at Budokan; the bouncy, McCartney-esque 'Girls Don’t Rule My World'; the lovely piano ballad 'Goodbye'; and 'Ode To Branson,' which features Tihista on backup vox. And that’s just the first third of this killer disc, which also features guest spots by Brad Elvis of the Elvis Brothers and Paul Mertens of Brian Wilson’s band. Six years in the making and well worth the wait!" - Baron Saturday GREAT!!!! ....[♠] "The Best Of Epicycle" is now available on iTunes as a download.
