is the forthcoming eighth studio album recorded by The B-52's during 2006 and 2007. The album will be released on March 25, 2008. The band took a long time to shop the album around to different labels in order to secure favorable intellectual property rights to the music, something previous record contracts did not afford them[citation needed].
It is the first album of new material that the group has released since Good Stuff in 1992, although the band did record two new songs for their 1998 compilation album Time Capsule: Songs for a Future Generation. Funplex is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 11, 2008[1].
The album came as a result of the band's renewed touring, and a feeling that they needed something new to perform. Guitarist Keith Strickland was inspired to create an updated sound for the band when listening to the New Order album Get Ready and hired producer Steve Osborne as a result. A more modern use of electronica production is the most distinct mark of the band's new sound.
The first single from the album was released digitally on 29 January 2008, and is the title track, "Funplex". A music video was filmed in West Hollywood on March 1, 2008 and featured a cameo appearance by RuPaul who appeared in the video for "Love Shack". [2]
The album was made available for preorder by iTunes on 12 March 2008.
Exclusive, limited edition autographed copies were offered by Newbury Comics and FYE.
