尽管在Massive Attack发了trip-hop第一声之后，人们将更多的注意力转向了同流派的Tricky和Portishead，但在《Protection》问世后，马上受到了与《Blue Lines》同样的评论界关注，特别是乐迷的拥护，这和Everything but the Girl的Tracy Thorn的加盟不无关系，其标题曲Protection几乎是最为悲哀、深情的充满矛盾的作品；3-D、Tricky合作的rap了中东风味浓厚的Karmacoma；还有与苏格兰作曲家/制作人Craig Armstrong合作的纯器乐作品"Weather Storm"，营造出一片黑夜中风暴来袭的低迷的氛围感。客座歌手仍包括：Horace Andy、Tricky、Nicolette（Three） 。这是一张更加感性的、充满灵性的专辑，虽然不具备《Blue Lines》那样的音乐地位，但确是很多乐迷心目中的最爱.相较于把hip-hop变快的big beat，trip-hop将hip-hop变慢，搭配厚重的bass音，轻柔、迷幻的音色，跟原本的hip-hop比起來，少了一些侵略性，听起来真的很舒服。电子元素经过Massive attack混合后,创造出了新风格.....
