The songs tend to amplify the band’s traits and expand on the sonic “story” they began to tell on The Missing Season. The opening track – appropriately titled “The Missing Season” – features picked guitars and dual harmonization with subtle piano. This introduction of sparse and subtle instrumentation under the layers of guitar – also including banjo, fiddle and harp – adds complexity to the mix. The title track emphasizes electric guitar more so than the opener and alternates between quiet and loud (relatively speaking). The organ and lapsteel make a few appearances as well, and we even get some good old southern rock from these French lads in “Black Bride.”
